If you’re trying to cut down on the number of bottles in your bathroom, you might have wondered whether you really need separate products for washing your hair, face and body.
With The Good Soap bars, you don’t.
Our natural soap and shampoo bars are made to be genuinely multipurpose, so the same bar can be used as a shampoo bar, body soap and facial cleansing bar. For many people, one little solid bar can replace several bottles in the bathroom.
Can You Use a Shampoo Bar as a Body Wash?
Our soap and shampoo bars can be used on both your hair and body. Simply lather the bar between wet hands or rub it directly onto wet skin, wash as normal and rinse thoroughly. That makes them particularly handy if you want to simplify your routine, reduce plastic bottles or just have fewer products cluttering up the shower. Of course, not every shampoo bar on the market is made in the same way, so always check how the manufacturer recommends using a particular product.
Why Can Our Bars Be Used on Hair and Body?
Our soap and shampoo bars are handmade in North Wales using the traditional cold process method and a carefully balanced blend of plant oils. They aren’t detergent-based shampoo bars. They are traditional handmade soap bars that we formulate to work beautifully as both soap and solid shampoo. One of the important ingredients in our recipe is castor oil. It helps produce the lovely creamy lather of the bars and is one of the reasons many of our customers find they don’t need to use a separate conditioner after washing their hair. The cold process method also creates naturally occurring glycerine, which remains in the finished soap rather than being removed. The result is one simple bar that can cleanse your hair, face and body.
Do I Need Conditioner After Using a Shampoo Bar?
You may not. Lots of our customers find that they don’t need a separate conditioner when using our soap and shampoo bars. Hair is very individual, though, so there isn’t one answer that will suit everyone. Your hair type, previous products and even your local water can affect how your hair responds when you first swap from bottled shampoo. If you’re completely new to solid shampoo, have a read of our How to Transition to a Shampoo Bar guide, where we explain what to expect and how to make the transition easier.
Which Soap and Shampoo Bar Should I Choose?
Because the basic bars can be used for both hair and skin, you can choose one according to what suits you best.
Coconut Milk & Honey is one of our most popular all-rounders, with a rich creamy lather and a moisturising feel.
Aloe Vera is a lovely gentle choice and one of our bestselling bars.
Shea & Jojoba is a nourishing option particularly suited to hair and skin that tends to feel dry.
Peppermint & Tea Tree gives a fresh, refreshing cleanse and can be used on hair, face and body.
Mineral Mud & Rosemary is a good choice if your hair or skin tends to be oily and you prefer a more clarifying cleanse.

One Bar for Hair, Face and Body
There’s something wonderfully simple about taking one bar into the shower and using it for everything. Instead of separate bottles of shampoo, body wash and facial cleanser, you can have one solid bar that does all three jobs.
That means:
-
fewer plastic bottles in the bathroom
-
fewer products to buy
-
less bathroom clutter
-
a simple everyday washing routine
-
one bar instead of several products when travelling
And because our bars are solid, they’re particularly useful for holidays and hand luggage — there’s no liquid allowance to worry about.
We also sell reusable aluminium travel tins if you want an easy way to take your bar away with you.
Are Hair and Body Soap Bars Good for Travel?
They’re brilliant for travel. A hair and body soap bar takes up very little room and can replace several separate toiletries in your bag. There’s no risk of a shampoo bottle leaking over your clothes, and solid bars don’t count towards your liquid allowance when flying. Just make sure the bar is allowed to dry between uses. A draining soap dish or travel tin is ideal once the bar has dried.
A Simpler Way to Wash
We originally created our soap and shampoo bars because we wanted simple, effective products without unnecessary plastic packaging. Being able to use the same bar for your hair, face and body makes them even more useful. Whether you call it a shampoo and body wash bar, a hair and body soap bar or simply a good old-fashioned bar of soap, the idea is the same: one hardworking bar that can do several jobs.
Our Soap & Shampoo Bars are handmade in small batches in North Wales, SLS free, palm oil free and packaged without plastic.
