What's In My Bar?

The Good Soap bars are artificial chemical and cruelty free. The only ingredients used are listed below.

Soap is made of a combination of oils, mixed with lye (sodium hydroxide) which changes formula during the saponification process. The oils are chosen to compliment each other, in a nutshell making soap relies very much on a precise balance and weight of the correct oils and also finding the right temperature at which to mix ingredients together. Saponification occurs during the process of mixing the oils and the lye together and both change composition. By the time the ingredients are mixed and the chemical reaction has taken place none of the original lye is left, hence the bars are now classed as 'chemical free'. The oils are no longer 'oily' and are cleansing. Once made the bars need about 4 weeks to 'cure'.

We begin with base oils, and the essential oils, or clays / powders if required, are added towards the end. All ingredients I use are natural so I never use chemical fragrances or add any artificial products to my bars.

I use a combination of 3 or more of these base oils -

  • Olive Oil
  • Coconut Oil
  • Castor Oil
  • Sunflower Oil
  • Rice Bran Oil
  • Shea Butter
  • Cocoa Butter
  • Jojoba Oil
  • Mango Butter
  • Avocado Butter
  • Babassu Oil
  • Beeswax
  • Soy Wax
  • Neem Oil (in dirty dog bar)
  • Rose Hip Oil
  • Vitamin E Oil
In some bars I use -
  • Coconut Milk
  • Aloe Vera
  • Clays
  • Charcoal Powder
  • Dead Sea Mineral Mud
  • Honey
  • Salt
  • Coffee
  • Sugar
In the deodorant bars I use -
  • Arrowroot Powder
  • Bicarbonate of Soda (I also make Bicarbonate free)
  • Vitamin E Oil
And then for their specific properties I add essential oils. These create fragrance and have their own individual active properties that work on your hair and skin. There are no added artificial fragrances, no palm oil, no SLS and no parabens. Just the goodness of pure natural ingredients :)
Read more here about our use of natural fragrances.
The ingredients in each bar are listed individually under each product on the website. Even though essential oils are a natural substance some can contain naturally occurring allergens. Each one of these is listed underneath the ingredients of the individual bars.
The Good Soap products hold CPSR certificates which means they are tested and are safe for use as a topical cosmetic product, in line with EU regulations.
The Good Soap really is a good soap!
